The default Mac OS X web browser, Safari 1.3 (v312), offers you a superior web experience with outstanding performance. Even the most complex of pages load at breakneck speed. In fact, Safari loads pages more quickly than any other Mac web browser. But that's not all. Safari uses the advanced interface technologies underlying Mac OS X to offer you an all-new view of the web, one that's much easier to use. This update release comes with the latest OS X 10.3.9 update.

Highlights of Safari 1.3: Page Load Performance (Safari 1.3 loads pages overall 35% faster than 1.2); JavaScript Performance (We have substantially improved the performance of the JavaScript engine in Safari); HTML Editing (Safari 1.3 supports HTML editing, both at the Objective-C WebKit API level and using contenteditable and designMode in a Web page); Compatibility and Security (Compatibility and security are our number one priority in WebCore, and Safari 1.3 has many important compatibility fixes); The DOM Exposed (The entire level 2 DOM has been exposed a public API in Objective-C); XSLT (Safari 1.3 on Panther now supports XSLT); Plugin Extensions (For those of you writing WebKit apps, a new Objective-C WebKit plugin API is supported that lets you put Cocoa widgetry into the Web page more easily).

Today Microsoft announced that Internet Explorer 7.0 is now going to be available before the "Longhorn" version of Windows, which is not expected until at least mid 2006. It will be avaible to Licensed Windows XP users that have installed Service Pack 2 (SP2) and above. Microsoft cited security as it's main reason for the about face of it's long standing policy that any new IE versions would only ship with O/S upgrades. However many believe that the sudden change is in response to the wildly popular Firefox browser that recently reached a milstone of 25 Million downloads in 99 days. Stay tuned for more updates, and a beta version soon.
